Band Spotlight: Ben Sims

What’s up BG Nation…we wanted to take a moment to spotlight each of the hard working, kick ass members of Brantley’s band…starting with drummer Ben Sims 🥁

Q: How long have you been a member of BG’s band? Any memories from your first performance with BG? 

A: I have been with Brantley around 17-18 years. My first show was at Mikes Down Under in Jefferson, GA. I had seen him play there a few months before to see if I wanted to audition. I really loved how much the people loved his music. 

Q: Is there one show with BG that stands out for any particular reason in your memory, and why? 

A: Honestly, I can’t name a particular show. I’ve had such an amazing career with Brantley and had the privilege to share the stage with some amazing musicians. Every show has some great story behind it. 

Q: Any pre-show rituals? 

A: I do stretch and warm up with some rudiments on the drums…..But my favorite ritual by far is prayer. Brantley likes to pray before every show. Also the 5 band guys pray in our dressing room every show as well. 

Q: Favorite BG song to perform, and why? 

A: It’s hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to I think I’d have to pick “Read Me My Rights.” Love drumming to that one!

Q: Favorite place to perform, and why?

A: So many amazing places but I gotta give it to Red Rocks. Such a beautiful venue that people travel from all over to see a show there. 

Q: Tell us one thing fans may not know about BG. 

A: Brantley is an amazing boss. Not only that, he sees all his employees as family and equals. He’s got our backs in any situation, no matter if it’s work related or personal. Can’t imagine working for anyone else!
